Focus And Scope

MADINA: Journal of Islamic Studies is a peer-reviewed academic journal published twice a year (in June and December) by Mandailing Global Edukasia. The journal serves as an open academic forum for the dissemination of scholarly research and the exchange of ideas in the broad field of Islamic Studies, embracing both local and global contexts.

Committed to interdisciplinary approaches, MADINA encourages contributions from scholars, researchers, and academics—both Indonesian and international—that explore various aspects and dimensions of Islam and Muslim societies using rigorous methodologies and innovative perspectives.

The journal welcomes original research articles written in Indonesian or English that fall within (but are not limited to) the following areas:

1. Islamic Education

  • Philosophy, curriculum, pedagogy, and innovations in Islamic education across formal and informal institutions.

2. Islamic Philosophy

  • Classical and contemporary issues in Islamic philosophy, epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics.

3. Islamic Thought and Literature

  • Studies on Islamic intellectual heritage, theology (kalam), mysticism (tasawuf), and Islamic literary traditions.

4. Islam and Peace

  • Exploration of Islamic perspectives on peace, interfaith dialogue, conflict resolution, and coexistence.

5. Science and Civilization in Islam

  • Historical and philosophical studies on Islamic contributions to science, technology, medicine, and the arts.

6. Islam in the Regions and Muslim Communities

  • Ethnographic, sociological, and anthropological studies on local expressions of Islam, Muslim identity, and community dynamics around the world.

7. Islamic Law (Sharia)

  • Research on classical jurisprudence (fiqh), contemporary legal issues, fatwa studies, and legal pluralism.

8. Islamic Economics and Business

  • Studies on Islamic banking, finance, halal industry, zakat and waqf management, and ethical business practices.

9. Al-Qur’an and Hadith Studies

  • Textual, thematic, linguistic, and contextual studies of the Qur’an and Hadith, including their interpretations, methodologies, and applications.


MADINA aspires to be a leading venue for high-quality academic work that deepens the understanding of Islam in its diverse manifestations and promotes constructive dialogue among scholars. All submitted manuscripts undergo a fair and rigorous peer-review process, ensuring academic quality and integrity.
